The San Diego County Fair continues until July 4th. While it is predominantly a celebration of Americana, international-style food and performances are always part of the mix. This year Los Tigres del Norte, Ramon Ayala, and La Adictiva are slated to perform (at an additional cost for concert tickets). The Wailers, Outlaw Mariachi, and "Experience Selena" will perform at no additional cost.
Current theater offerings include The Taming of the Shrew at the Old Globe, In Every Generation by the San Diego Rep (ends Sunday), Mud Row at the Old Town Theatre, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum in Temecula. Performances of the Musical Lempicka are happening at UCSD. And Songs for a New World continues at the Sunshine Brooks Theatre in Oceanside.
Today (Friday), Saturday and Sunday, Everything Everywhere All at Once will be screened at Cinema Under the Stars in Mission Hills.
Today (Friday), there will be the Help Ukraine Now Fundraiser at Liberty Station. Mariela Contreras will perform at the Museum of Making Music. The San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art's photography exhibition The Buses are Coming will have its opening at the Quartyard. Both Santana and Earth, Wind and Fire will perform at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista. The Center for World Music in partnership with the Mingei International Museum will present Flamenco with La Chimi, but tickets are now sold out. However there are still tickets available for the Expressions of Joy: Festival Music and Dance of Korea concert on July 8th, so buy yours before they are all gone!
Saturday and Sunday, the annual San Diego Greek Festival will be held at St. Spyridon.
Saturday, the House of Puerto Rico will hold their annual Lawn Program at the International Cottages. A Juneteenth Summer Celebration of Culture will be held at the Joe and Vi Jacobs Center. As they have done for more than 30 years, the North County NAACP will be hosting a Juneteenth Celebration in downtown Oceanside. The Old Globe will also have a Juneteenth Celebration. The Chinese Historical Museum will host a virtual talk by Russell Low on his book The All American Crew. The Culinary Historians of San Diego will present It’s Boba Time: Adapting to Change with Professor Yong Chen from UC Irvine. The Old Globe will present a Juneteenth Celebration. At USD's Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, The Fowler Global Social Innovation Global Finals competition will be held
Sunday, at La Jolla Shores, a 2nd Annual Juneteenth BBQ will be held. There will also be a Juneteenth Celebration in La Mesa. At the Encore Event Center on Ronson Road, there will be a Ukrainian Stand for Peace Festival.
Monday, Maalaala Mo Kaya? at the Mingei will celebrate Filipino trailblazers in politics, education, military and community service. The film Crazy Rich Asians will screen on the roof of the Manchester Grand Hyatt downtown.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the annual Taste of Little Italy will happen. Many, but not all, of the participating are, not surprisingly, Italian.
Tuesday is the first day of summer, and that means it is also International Make Music Day. It will be celebrated at Liberty Station and the Museum of Making Music (Carlsbad) with workshops and performances. The tremendously charming film Coco will be screened at the Manchester Grand Hyatt.
Wednesday and Thursday, Calexico will perform at the Belly Up. On those same days, the Hiromasa Yonebayashi anime film The Secret World of Arrietty will be shown at the Angelika Film Center.
Next Thursday, the film Gather will be screened at Coastal Roots Farm.
Next Friday, at the La Jolla United Methodist Church the Summer Pops Concert version of the Music of Les Misérables will be performed. The biographical drama Selena will be shown at the Manchester Hyatt. Metalachi will perform at the Belly Up.
Next Saturday and Sunday the Scottish Highland Games return to Brengle Terrace Park in Vista.
Next Saturday, Lebanese comedian Nemr Abou Nassar will perform at the Balboa Theatre.
Next Sunday, the House of Sweden will hold its annual Lawn Program at the International Cottages in Balboa Park.
